This small elongated ovoid vase is dated by Bonhams to about 1910. It is painted with a single motif in profusion: trailing wisteria, its pendant flower clusters falling across the body. The concentration on one flowering plant, with no figures or borders competing for attention, is characteristic of the more open style the studio adopted late in the Meiji era.

The vase is of particular interest for its marks. It is signed in gilt on the underside and also carries an impressed signature ‘Yabu Meizan’, a combination recorded on some of the studio’s wares. It was offered in Bonhams’ online sale of Japanese art in miniature. Offered at Bonhams, Small and Mighty: Japanese Art in Miniature (online, New York), on 16 December 2025, lot 1. It realised US$1,920 including buyer’s premium, against an estimate of US$1,000–US$1,500.
