This lot combines two small pieces painted on a clear crackled ground. The first is a miniature ewer of compressed ovoid form, with a recessed foot and a short spout, painted with a bird among autumn maples. The second is a demitasse cup and saucer, sparingly painted with coiling vines and chrysanthemum blossoms.
Like the partial service sold in San Francisco in 2016, the coffee cup and saucer reflect the studio’s production of European forms for foreign buyers. Both the ewer and the cup and saucer are signed ‘Yabu Meizan’. The lot was offered in New York in 2026 but did not sell. Offered at Bonhams, Fine Japanese & Korean Art, New York, on 16 September 2026, lot 1065. It was not sold (bought in) against an estimate of US$2,500–US$3,500.
