This beaker vase has a globular body that finishes in a widely flaring mouth. It is painted with a single trailing branch of autumn maple. The design does not stop at the rim but continues onto the interior, so the leaves seem to tumble over the lip into the vase.
The single-motif treatment, with generous areas of open ground, contrasts with the densely populated figure scenes of the same sale. It shows the studio’s range in its maple designs, a subject also found in the British Museum’s sencha service and the Khalili fluted bowl. The vase is signed in gilt ‘Yabu Meizan’. Offered at Bonhams, Fine Japanese & Korean Art, New York, on 16 September 2026, lot 1068. It realised US$7,680 including buyer’s premium, against an estimate of US$2,000–US$3,000.
