A slender vase with boys flying kites. Lawrence dates it to the late 1880s and describes it as painted entirely freehand, with individual expressions on the boys’ faces, on a body of slightly greyish tone. He pairs it with a later bulbous vase (pl. 24) to show the difference that the studio’s engraved copper plates made.
Description summarised from Louis Lawrence, Satsuma: The Romance of Japan (2011), pl. 23, pp. 44–45. Measurements and marks are as published and have not been checked against the object.
