Under nine centimetres high, this miniature vase shows the studio’s ability to organise several subjects on a tiny surface. Oval panels set into the body frame birds and flowers, landscapes, and children enjoying New Year festivities. The ground around them is filled with millefleurs, the dense carpet of minute flower-heads that is one of the studio’s signatures.

Painted in polychrome enamels and gilt on a clear crackled glaze, the vase belongs to the class of cabinet miniatures in which Meizan’s painters worked at the very limit of visible detail. It is signed in gilt ‘Yabu Meizan’. Offered at Bonhams, Fine Japanese & Korean Art, New York, on 16 September 2026, lot 1063. It realised US$2,816 including buyer’s premium, against an estimate of US$2,000–US$3,000.
