This pair of tall ovoid vases, each only twelve centimetres high, has a short out-turned mouth, and parts of each are worked on a minutely gilt-stippled ground. At the neck a collar of twelve stylised cherry blossoms sits within a border of roundels. Below, an upper band shows children and ladies engaged in elegant pursuits: calligraphy, flower arrangement, painting and music. A lower band opens onto a lake with islands, mountains, rustic dwellings and fishing boats.
A floral collar at the base echoes the one at the neck, framing the two scenes. Each vase is signed underneath in gilt ‘Yabu Meizan’. The pair was offered in Paris in 2025 but did not find a buyer at the sale. Offered at Bonhams, Fine Japanese Art, Paris Avenue Hoche, on 15 October 2025, lot 4. It was not sold (bought in) against an estimate of €9,500–€12,000.
