Bonhams’ press release for its New York sale of Japanese works of art in September 2014 reported that a rare Satsuma bowl by Yabu Meizan from the Ruth and Carl Barron Collection realised US$87,500. The release does not describe the bowl’s form, decoration, dimensions or mark, and does not give a lot number, and the lot page itself has not been located. Until it is, this record should be read as a market data point rather than a catalogued object.
The result is nevertheless the third-highest in this archive. It forms part of a remarkable sale that also included the frog vase sold for US$93,750. Offered at Bonhams, Fine Japanese Works of Art, New York, on 16 September 2014. It realised US$87,500 including buyer’s premium.
