This tall cylindrical vase, tapering slightly to a splayed foot, is painted on a clear crackled ground with figures boating and visiting a small shrine. The scene unfolds below blossoming cherry trees along a rocky shoreline, with mountains beyond. A collar of chrysanthemum heads encircles the shoulder. Standing-petal reserves filled with chrysanthemum blossoms rise from a geometric band at the foot.
Delicate scrolling vines and chrysanthemums are painted even on the upper edge of the rim and the outer edge of the foot. The vase closely parallels a tall vase with boating and tea-houses sold by Bonhams in 2022. It is signed on the underside in gilt ‘Yabu Meizan’. Offered at Bonhams, Fine Japanese & Korean Art, New York, on 16 September 2026, lot 1070. It realised US$23,040 including buyer’s premium, against an estimate of US$10,000–US$15,000.
